Assessment of the usability of a hydrogen reformer in submarines
The tech-solute patent DE1015517 “Process for the production of hydrogen” allows the production of hydrogen based on crystalline silicon and lye. It was clarified for a submarine manufacturer whether on-board hydrogen generation can in principle be realised with the help of a self-regulating Si reformer. In essence, the rough draft of such a reformer was developed. The study was rounded off by a refuelling concept, an estimate of the total weight, total installation space, mass and material flows and an assessment of operating costs.
